DESCRIPTION

Paper wrappers, stitched. 10.5 x 8.25 inches. An extremely scarce monograph, signed. The publication is Dedicated to the Poet Jonas Mekas. Good copy, no markings inside, some light rubbing on covers, very small tear front cover, top (visible above).

Excerpts over an eight year period from the journal of Markopolous, an important avant-garde filmmaker and a leading figure of the New American Cinema movement. Based on a novel by Elias Venezis, "Serenity" was conceived as a 35mm feature about the Greek immigrant experience, later abandoned by Markopoulos after legal difficulties. A short version screened in Italy in 1961. One year after this publication, he went into self-imposed exile in Europe.

From the Elfriede Fischinger Collection at CVM.
