DESCRIPTION
Vintage gelatin silver photographic print. Warm toned print with silver mirroring, nick on left edge. Matted to board, horizontal crease in board below print, left. Foxing, staining on right side of board, not evident on photograph. Hirsh had been a WPA photographer until 1937, just before this photograph was taken.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hy Hirsh, photographer/filmmaker, worked in California, Amsterdam and Paris. He was a WPA photographer in 1936-37, and a staff photographer at the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum and the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, both in San Francisco. Hirsh's photography is in the collections of The Getty Museum, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and other museums.
