DETAIL

DESCRIPTION

Exquisite watercolor from 1944, considered Fischinger's strongest decade for his artwork. Clearly a study for a possible film project; the smaller forms are reminiscent of his famous Studies films of the 1930s (particularly a key sequence in Studie nr. 8). Fischinger made several of his color film masterpieces during the 1940s, while he received support from The Guggenheim Foundation. The musical shapes are a common element throughout his paintings of this period. Fischinger is known for his films and oil paintings, but watercolors are rare. From a private collection.
