ITEM 1: Fischinger oil

Oskar Fischinger (1900-1967), Untitled, Study for Animation, c. 1942, oil on English silk. Unsigned. Punched for animation, unframed. 9.5 x 12 inches; painted image is 8 x 10.75 inches. Painted during a period in which Fischinger was making similar studies for the film Radio Dynamics (1942) - see photo of studio above. Artist's biography. SOLD

Fischinger in the Los Angeles studio where he worked on many cels and paintings on English drawing silk for Radio Dynamics, and likely the 2 oils shown here, above and below. He built wood racks (seen in background) where the cels and paintings were stacked to dry.
ITEM 2: Fischinger oil
framed view
Abstraction (1940) by Oskar Fischinger (1900-1967). Oil on English silk. 9-1/2 x 12 inches. Framed. Dated and signed with Fischinger's logo lower left. This painting explores animated geometric movements similar to those of Fischinger's classic films Allegretto (1936-1940) and Radio Dynamics. Painted during a period in which he was painting numerous studies for Radio Dynamics (see photo of studio above), completed in 1942. Artist's biography. Unsold.

Own a piece of Los Angeles avant-garde film history! Vintage Robert Nelson poster, for Occidental College (Los Angeles) screening. Slight wear on top left and bottom. Nelson (1930-2012) was an experimental filmmaker, born in San Francisco and active there in the late 1950s-early 60s. Poster from the William Moritz Collection at CVM.* 21.5 x 16.5 inches. This auction closed on July 13, 2013, 6 pm PST. By bidding via email to CVM, you certify that if you are the winner with the highest bid, you will pay for the item within 14 days of auction close, plus shipping costs and CA tax if required. We do not charge a buyer's premium. Bids are final and may not be retracted. Please include your full name, address, and phone number with your bid. Note, your bid will be anonymous, we don't need to list your name unless you request this. Bidder registration forms may be required to place bids over $1,000, from bidders who are not CVM members or with whom we have not had previous transactions.
"Starting bid" is required opening bid; this amount has not been bid unless listed as the "Current Bid" amount
Bid increments: If current bid is over $1,000 - $100 increments
If over $500 - $50; if under $500 - $25; If under $100 - $10
Bid prices do not include shipping charges. We are required to add 9% California sales tax to all California sales (items delivered to CA addresses).
